Montgomery Reading Challenge<\/a> &#8211; and participate I did. <\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/bekahcubed.menterz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/photoindex\/2019-01\/IMG_20190115_201725307.jpg' alt='Anne smashing the slate over Gilbert&#039;s head' class='ngg-singlepic ngg-none' \/><\/p>\n<p>I started the year off with Mariah Marsden and Brianna Thummler&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/bekahcubed.menterz.com\/blog\/2019\/20190115-19123.htm\"><em>Anne of Green Gables: A Graphic Novel<\/em><\/a>. I was somewhat unexpectedly delighted with the format &#8211; but likely because my familiarity with the original story allowed me to catch little details that I otherwise wouldn&#8217;t have understood (pictures not really being my language.)<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/bekahcubed.menterz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/photoindex\/2019-01\/IMG_20190130_214327300.jpg' alt='&quot;Red cordial&quot; with image of Anne and Diana at a tea-table' class='ngg-singlepic ngg-none' \/><\/p>\n<p>The kids and I read Kelly Hill&#8217;s excellent board books titled <a href=\"http:\/\/bekahcubed.menterz.com\/blog\/2019\/20190130-19237.htm\"><em>Anne&#8217;s Colors<\/em> and <em>Anne&#8217;s Numbers<\/em><\/a>, which provided me with a lovely opportunity to introduce the children to some of my favorite Anne-ecdotes (hopefully without spoiling their eventual enjoyment of the real deal.)<\/p>\n<p>Our family watched several episodes of Tales from Avonlea &#8211; which made my interested in going back and re-reading <em>The Story Girl<\/em> and <em>Chronicles of Avonlea<\/em> and the like, as I don&#8217;t remember the books being quite as <em>sensational<\/em> as the TV series was<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/bekahcubed.menterz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/photoindex\/2019-01\/IMG_20190131_202106855.jpg' alt='Anne of Avonlea by L.M. Montgomery' class='ngg-singlepic ngg-none' \/><\/p>\n<p>And, finally, I read <em>Anne of Avonlea<\/em>. Amidst the busy of the beginning of a new year, I enjoyed catching up with my old friend Anne, no longer a child but not yet a woman.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Carrie, as usual for hosting this challenge this year!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.readingtoknow.com\/2019\/01\/lucy-maud-montgomery-reading-challenge.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img alt=\"L. Montgomery Reading Challenge\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bluecastlephoto.com\/misc\/lmm-challenge.gif\" border=\"0\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>And now that January is over and February has begun, it&#8217;s time to begin a new challenge &#8211; Barbara&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/barbarah.wordpress.com\/2019\/02\/01\/laura-ingalls-wilder-reading-challenge-2019-sign-up\/\">Laura Ingalls Wilder Reading Challenge<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/bekahcubed.menterz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/photoindex\/2019-02\/IMG_20190201_154144301.jpg' alt='Laura Ingalls Wilder&#039;s Fairy Poems' class='ngg-singlepic ngg-none' \/><\/p>\n<p>The children and I are eager to participate &#8211; we&#8217;ve already finished a collection of fairy poems by Laura, as well as started <em>Little House in the Big Woods<\/em>. We&#8217;re planning to read at least one more of the little house books together and to do some activities to go along with it. <\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/bekahcubed.menterz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/photoindex\/2019-02\/IMG_20190201_154212856.jpg' alt='Little House, Long Shadow' class='ngg-singlepic ngg-none' \/><\/p>\n<p>I, personally, have borrowed <em>Little House, Long Shadow<\/em> by Anita Clair Fellman from the library.
