And I love teaching about food.<\/p>\n<p><b>Because I love food.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I get excited about cooking, about food, about how food fits into people&#8217;s lives.<\/p>\n<p>My students can&#8217;t help but feel my excitement for food.<\/p>\n<p><b>Which is why Don Carson&#8217;s quote sobers me.<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;If I have learned anything in 35 or 40 years of teaching, it is that students don\u2019t learn everything I teach them. <strong>What they learn is what I am excited about<\/strong>, the kinds of things I emphasize again and again and again and again&#8230;&#8221;<br \/>\n~Don Carson (via <a href=\"http:\/\/thegospelcoalition.org\/blogs\/justintaylor\/2010\/11\/19\/carson-people-dont-learn-what-i-teach-them-they-learn-what-im-excited-about\/\" target=\"_blank\">Justin Taylor<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>What are the things I get excited about?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What are the things I emphasize again and again and again and again?<\/p>\n<p>Are they the things I want to be emphasizing over and over and over again?<\/p>\n<p>Carson says what should be emphasized over and over again:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;&#8230;What they learn is what I am excited about, the kinds of things I emphasize again and again and again and again. <strong>That had better be the gospel.<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n~Don Carson (via <a href=\"http:\/\/thegospelcoalition.org\/blogs\/justintaylor\/2010\/11\/19\/carson-people-dont-learn-what-i-teach-them-they-learn-what-im-excited-about\/\" target=\"_blank\">Justin Taylor<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> I am challenged as I read these words.  What is the refrain of my life&#8217;s work?
