{"id":7287,"date":"2011-06-30T06:08:20","date_gmt":"2011-06-30T11:08:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bekahcubed.menterz.com\/blog\/?p=7287"},"modified":"2011-06-30T06:08:20","modified_gmt":"2011-06-30T11:08:20","slug":"top-ten-classics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bekahcubed.menterz.com\/blog\/2011\/20110630-7287.htm","title":{"rendered":"Top Ten Classics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I haven&#8217;t yet read.<\/p>\n<p>Carrie recently posted a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.readingtoknow.com\/2011\/06\/top-ten-classics-i-intend-to-read.htm\">list of ten classics she&#8217;s going to get to eventually<\/a> (following  <a href=\"http:\/\/bluerosesheart.blogspot.com\/2011\/06\/top-ten-classics-i-intend-to.htm\">Bluerose&#8217;s example<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>I figured I might as well throw my hat into the towel. (Oh my, I&#8217;m rather tired. State, you know!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. <em>Les Miserables<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve seen the recent movie, listen to the musical incessantly, and just can&#8217;t get myself to open the book. It&#8217;s <b>so<\/b> enormous and absolutely intimidating.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <em>War and Peace<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve read all of the &#8220;little pieces&#8221; my library has by Tolstoy. I&#8217;ve enjoyed them all. But I have a mental block when it comes to War and Peace and Anna Karenina. They just have to be difficult to get through, right?<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. <em>Don Quixote<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s in Susan Wise Bauer&#8217;s <i>A Well-Trained Mind<\/i> as an <i>easy<\/i> book to get through. Unfortunately, that doesn&#8217;t change the fact that it&#8217;s a <i>long<\/i> book to get through. I&#8217;ve started half a dozen times and never gotten past the first couple of chapters.<\/p>\n<p>There ends my burning list, the list that immediately pops into my head when I think of classics I intend to read but just haven&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>After those come a slew of slightly less hefty titles:<\/p>\n<p><b>4. <i>Institutes of the Christian Religion<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Okay, maybe <i>less-hefty<\/i> wasn&#8217;t the best way to describe my tier-two classics.<\/p>\n<p><b>5. <i>1984<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>6. <i>Uncle Tom&#8217;s Cabin<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>7. <i>Walden<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>8. <i>Of Mice and Men<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>9. <i>Where the Red Fern Grows<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>10. <i>Harry Potter<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Okay, that last one isn&#8217;t for real. IMHO, a decade and a half does not a classic make (no matter how bestselling a book was from the get-go).<\/p>\n<p>So, there&#8217;s part of my list.
