That&#8217;s <b>1.69<\/b> library products per day.<\/p>\n<p>Library <i>products<\/i>? What&#8217;s that supposed to mean?<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s everything&#8230;<br \/>\n&#8230;Picture books (<b>1203<\/b> titles read)<br \/>\n&#8230;First Readers (<b>62<\/b> titles read)<br \/>\n&#8230;Beginning Chapter Books (<b>91<\/b> titles read)<br \/>\n&#8230;Children&#8217;s Fiction (<b>306<\/b> titles read)<br \/>\n&#8230;YA books (<b>23<\/b> titles read)<br \/>\n&#8230;Juvenile nonfiction (<b>140<\/b> titles read)<br \/>\n&#8230;Children&#8217;s CDs (<b>42<\/b> discs listened to)<br \/>\n&#8230;Children&#8217;s DVDs (<b>47<\/b> discs watched)<br \/>\n&#8230;Children&#8217;s VHSs (<b>1<\/b> video watched)<br \/>\n&#8230;Adult Fiction (<b>377<\/b> titles read)<br \/>\n&#8230;Adult Nonfiction (<b>589<\/b> titles read)<br \/>\n&#8230;Adult Cassette Tapes (<b>2<\/b> tape sets listened to)<br \/>\n&#8230;Adult CDs (<b>432<\/b> discs listened to)<br \/>\n&#8230;Adult DVDs (<b>106<\/b> discs watched)<br \/>\n&#8230;Periodicals (<b>66<\/b> issues read)<\/p>\n<p>Do you think that&#8217;s cheating?<\/p>\n<p>I totally do. Which is why I also separate my reading out into books and into adult books.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve read <b>2857<\/b> books since starting this project&#8211;a rate of <b>1.39<\/b> books per day.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve read <b>1032<\/b> adult books and periodicals since beginning the project&#8211;a rate of <b>.5<\/b> books per day.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been 311 days since I last tabulated my reading, and in that time, I&#8217;ve read\/listened to\/watched&#8230;<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>312<\/b> Picture books (one per day)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>9<\/b> First readers (just under 1 per month)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>9<\/b> Beginning chapter books (just under 1 per month)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>57<\/b> Children&#8217;s fiction books (about 5.5 per month)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>16<\/b> YA books (about 1.5 per month)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>52<\/b> Children&#8217;s nonfiction books (about 5 per month)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>9<\/b> Children&#8217;s CDs (about 1 per month)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>1<\/b> Children&#8217;s DVD<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>29<\/b> Fiction books (just under 3 per month)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>49<\/b> Nonfiction books (just under 5 per month)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>166<\/b> Adult CDs (16 per month)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>9<\/b> Adult DVDs (just under 1 per month)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>6<\/b> Periodicals (about 1 every two months)<\/p>\n<p>Since I check out my materials in 6 week intervals, let&#8217;s look at what I typical consume per library trip (vs. what I typically <i>check out<\/i> per library trip):<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>42<\/b> Picture books (vs. 50 checked out)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>1.2<\/b> First Readers (this is probably the average checked out too)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>1.2<\/b> Beginning Chapter Books (ditto above)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>7.7<\/b> Children&#8217;s fiction (vs. 6-8 checked out)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>2.2<\/b> YA books (vs. 2-3 checked out)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>7<\/b> Children&#8217;s nonfiction (vs. 8 checked out)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>2.8<\/b> Adult fiction (vs. 4-5 checked out)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>4.7<\/b> Adult nonfiction (vs. 6-8 checked out)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>23.6<\/b> CDs (vs. 25 checked out)<br \/>\n&#8230;<b>1.3<\/b> DVDs (vs. 1 checked out&#8211;this is because I sometimes get the DVDs via Netflix or whatever and then count them because the library does own a copy)<\/p>\n<p>Yes, that&#8217;s right. I typically check out 100-110 items from the library each visit&#8211;and have consumed an average of 98 items per 6 week visit. Not bad if you ask me.<\/p>\n<p>According to my brother-out-law (who is a library aide) and his coworker (a librarian), there are approximately 30,000 books at the library I&#8217;m attempting to read through. Which means that (if I&#8217;ve got my math right: 30,000 books x 6 weeks\/98 books x 1 year\/52 weeks) it will take me around 35 years to complete this project.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it&#8217;ll take me forever to read my library-but I&#8217;ll say I&#8217;m making halfway decent progress :-)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As of yesterday, April 25, 2012, I have been working on my epic library reading project for 2058 days.
